Friends star confirms huge next role as fans make brutal remark

Courteney Cox will be reprising her role as the iconic character Gale Weathers in the upcoming movie Scream 7.

Speculation was rife that she wouldn't be coming back for the next instalment after her character was attacked and taken to hospital, leaving a question mark on whether she was alive or not.

As well as this, Gale's on-screen partner Dewey Riley was murdered by Ghostface, meaning it's unlikely actor David Arquette will be returning, despite being a part of the franchise since the first film.

Now it's been confirmed that she's coming back for the seventh film after letting the news slip in an interview. While appearing on Variety's Just A Variety podcast, she divulged: "I got the script yesterday. I haven't read it yet, I just got it...

"I'm excited to read it, and I know they're gonna start filming in June, in Canada. I don't know if I'm supposed to say anything. Let me tell you the killer!"

Courteney's character Gale has appeared in every single Scream film to date as the news reporter turned author who has escaped being killed several times.

Fans of the franchise have flocked to Reddit to share their reactions as one person expressed: "Not sure how I feel about this. I really felt the fifth film was as good a way to be a send off for her." Another Reddit user said: "Damn. I was really hoping they'd cut the cord on the OG cast after the last one.

"None of the new characters were at all memorable, but having the old characters hovering around in the background looking tired isn't doing anyone any favours."

Somebody else brutally commented: "Pencil her in for another stomach stabbing or gunshot?" as yet another predicted: "One dies per movie in this trilogy I bet. Gale is next; then Sid. I wouldn’t be surprised if Sid sits out the next movie, and then Gale’s death is what brings Sid back."

Another star returning is Neve Campbell as her character Sidney Prescott after featuring in the first five films. They will be joined by Mason Gooding as well as newcomers Isabel May, Celeste O'Connor, Asa Germann, McKenna Grace, Sam Rechner and Anna Camp in new, undisclosed roles.

New age star Melissa Barrera will not be coming back after being sacked over her pro-Palestine comments in relation to the Israel conflict. As a result of this, Jenna Ortega, who played Melissa's on-screen sister, has also confirmed she won't be returning.

Scream 6 released last year and was box-office success, garnering $169 million from a $35 million budget.
